“It really stimulated an interest in carrying out research and has made me really excited for my studies next year. Seeing research carried out in the real world and carrying out some of my own has made me really keen to understand the techniques that allow it to take place.”
The IGBMC is a major European center for biomedical research. During summer the IGBMC provides talented undergraduate students from around the world the opportunity to spend 6-8 weeks alongside IGBMC researchers. Students carry out short research projects and address scientific questions in a dynamic environment. Projects center around areas of life sciences such as development, transcription, cancer, neuroscience, biochemistry, structural biology and bioinformatics. The working language is English.
The institute is located near Strasbourg, in the heart of Europe, close to the German and Swiss borders. Strasbourg hosts the second largest university in France, and houses the Council of Europe and the European Parliament. It is a historical and picturesque city, with a cosmopolitan environment and a vibrant cultural life.
The city is definitely worth a visit and the summer internship at the IGBMC offers students the chance to do it at the same time that allows them to meet scientists from various disciplines and gain hands-on experience at the bench.
Selected students will be provided with accommodation for the entire duration of the internship not far from the institute and in an area well served by public transportation. Students will be sharing a modern studio equipped with kitchen and private bathroom, WiFi and access to laundry facilities. They will also be awarded a stipend (500€ per month in average) and reimbursed for their travel expenses (up to 500€).
